Your First French Lesson 2 Different Ways to Say
Hello
If you learn to speak french in a school classroom, this is probably
what you learned:
Jacques: Bonjour (Hello) Cecile: Bonjour Jacques: Comment
allez-vous? (How are you?) Cecile: Je vais bien, merci. (I'm fine
thank you.)
This is a formal french greeting. It can be used is any situation,
including work and business.
However, this formal greeting is not always used in everyday
situations, especially among young people. Teenagers are more likely to
use this:
Jacques: Salut, ca va? (Hello, how are you doing?) Cecile: Ca va,
et toi? (Fine, and you?)
